Abstract:
A breeding program on Cotoneaster for resistance to Erwinia amylovora is in progress since 1974. Whilst the selections in the genus C. dammeri had been brought to a successful conclusion with two resistant varieties, the work is still being continued with the upright growing genera C. franchetii, C. salicifolius and C. watereri.
In comparison to the starting population in 1978 the quote of resistant plants of C. franchetii increased by 21, 24, 37 and 47 percent in the four progenies of the third generation in 1988. In the case of C. salicifolius and C. watereri two generations are examined until now.
In the second generation only the percentages of slightly susceptible plants had increased at the expense of the percentages of the highly susceptible ones.
