Abstract:
Fire blight was detected for the first time in Norway in 1986. It was a limited outbreak, confined to the suburbs of Stavanger, a city on the west coast of the country.
Different species of Cotoneaster were attacked, most seriously the broadleaved species.
The disease has once been detected on apple, but on no other hosts.
An eradication programme has been going on for three years, and it has been successful to prevent fire blight from entering other parts of the country, but not to eradicate it from the private gardens in the suburbs of the city.
