ISHS Acta Horticulturae 272: Symposium on Bedding and Pot Plant Culture

YEAR-ROUND SCHEDULING OF DWARF ASIATIC HYBRID LILIES

Authors:   X. Zhang, D.J. Beattie, J.W. White
Abstract:
Commercially precooled bulbs of dwarf Asiatic hybrid lily cultivars Golden, Star and Coral were stored at -2°C air temperature. Between December 16, 1987, and September 21, 1988, bulbs of each cultivar were removed every 4 weeks and forced in a greenhouse without a cooling system except for fan ventilation. In general, time from potting to anthesis decreased from January to July as temperature, photoperiod and irradiance levels increased, then increased from July until September as temperature, photoperiod, and irradiance levels decreased. Plant height and flower number of 'Golden' and 'Star' followed the same pattern as time from potting to anthesis. The flower number of 'Coral', which had the fewest flowers did not change dramatically throughout the experiment.
