| Abstract:
Experiments were carried out with Begonia, Cyclamen and four foliage crops in order to get information about effects of supplementary lighting on growth rate and plant quality. Under Dutch light levels supplementary lighting was most effective in the period from October until February. In this period cultivation time was strongly reduced for Hedera, Fatshedera and Cyclamen. For Begonia, Ficus and Codiaeum the surplus of dry weight partly resulted in higher quality, which led to smaller differences in cultivation time, but improved ornamental value to a high extent. Negative side-effects were found for several crops, like undesired elongation of Cyclamen plants and differences in habit of growth between the new grown parts and cutting for Ficus and Codiaeum. | |
