HIGH TEMPERATURE EFFECTS ON THE GROWTH AND FLOWERING OF IMPATIENS WALLERANA CULTIVARS |

| Abstract:
Experiments were conducted to identify the response of Impatiens wallerana Hook, to high temperature treatments. Nineteen cultivars were grown under day/night temperature regimes of 35/30, 30/24, and 24/18°C for 4 weeks beginning 5 February 1988. All cultivars grown at the highest temperatures had greater plant canopy size and shoot dry weight, but smaller flowers than those grown at lower temperatures. For some cultivars, high temperature caused leaf curling, excessive stem elongation, and cupped flowers, while lower temperature delayed flower development and opening. Based on these results, the cultivars suitable for culture for different temperature regimes are discussed. | |
