Abstract:
The effects of 11 chemicals in different combinations used for seed dressing on the occurrence of pathogenic fungi on asparagus seeds and infestation of one-year-old crowns by Fusarium were evaluated over a period of four years.
Fungi of the genus Fusarium contaminated 3–7 percent of untreated seeds.
Fusaria were not isolated from seeds treated with benomyl in acetone and with triadimenol + imazalil + fuberidazol in any of the four years of the experiment.
The latter chemical reduced seed germination rate by over 15 percent.
Seed dressing did not protect one-year-old crowns against infestation by Fusarium, although occurrence of root rot was slighty smaller when seeds had been treated with benomyl and carbendazim.
