ISHS Acta Horticulturae 271: VII International Asparagus Symposium

RECENT ADVANCE IN BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF FUSARIUM WILT OF ASPARAGUS IN TAIWAN

Authors:   C.C. Tu, Y.H. Cheng, A.S. Cheng
Abstract:
A series of experiments on biological control of asparagus Fusarium wilt has been carried out in past 5 years. A saprophytic isolate of F. oxysporum nonpathogenic to asparagus and 9 improtant field crops proved to reduce the severity of the disease in pot tests, but was not so effective in the field. Among several organic amendments tested, 1% (w/w) rice bran and 2% (w/w) "SH-mixture" increased both stands and yield of asparagus. The effect of rice bran was further improved when it was applied in combination with the saprophytic isolate of F. oxysporum. Both organic amendments also increased seedling stands significantly in the replant field by adding 10% benlate wp at the rate of 1/2,000 (w/w).
