Abstract:
The results of three years of experiments with asparagus grown under plastic tunnels and in open field condition, heated in the soil by means of waste water originating from a thermoelectric power station, are reported.
The open variety Darbonne-4 and hybrid Minerve were the cvs tested.
In comparison with the unheated control, the eraliness induced by heating has been 20 days approximately.
The spear production gathered on March 20 amounted to 17 q/ha and to 3 q/ha under heated and unheated plastic tunnel rispectively.
In open field condition, heating allowed an early production (gathered on April 14) amounting to 11 q/ha.
The total spear yield of the heated plot was significantly higher under tunnel and was similar in open field condition respect to the unheated controls.
This difference was attributed to a higher number rather than to a higher size of spears.
