Abstract:
Storage of ware potatoes does not guarantee a profit, but reduces the risk of heavy losses due to low prices when the market is flooded at harvesting time.
It gives the farmer a chance to sell at a better price later, and also provides food when the crop is off season.
Storage extends the supply of potatoes to consumers after the harvest season.
This survey paper covers briefly some aspects of farm storage in the Northern highlands of Tanzania, and examples of economic costing for potato storage.
