Abstract:
After a brief description of Farming Systems Research (FSR) and its current methods of problem identification, some of the shortcomings of FSR are described.
Further the importance is stressed of farmer participation in the problem-identification-stage of research and some of the recent developments in methodology are high-lighted.
Finally some views are given on the role economic research can play in multidisciplinary research projects and how a higher degree of farmer participation in economic research can be realized.
