FUNGI ASSOCIATED TO PINEAPPLE FRUIT ROTS MARKETED IN CHILE

Authors:   J.R. Montealegre, L.E. Luchsinger
Abstract:
Marketed pineapple fruit rots caused by fungi were studied in order to identify the aetiology. Fungi were isolated on Agar-potato-dextrosa media. A suspension of 4 to 5 x 104 conidia/ml of the different fungi were applied to healthy pineapple-fruits with and without wounds. Fungi identified include: Ceratocystis paradoxa, Cladosporium herbarum, Fusarium moniliforme var. subglutinans, Fusarium solani and Penicillium glabrum. Ceratocystis paradoxa and Fusarium moniliforme var subglutinans were the most important fungi causing damage of marketed fruit.
