Abstract:
Marketing of immature fruit has had a major impact on the Lychee Industry in Queensland.
Trials to develop a practical maturity standard have highlighted the utility of the Brix:acid ratio of the pulp.
Cultivar variability, growing region and seasonality have all been assessed and shown to have a significant (P>0.05) although minimal effect.
Correlation to mean eating quality is consistently high (R2 = 0.75). A recommendation of a Brix:acid ratio of 30 to 40 (calculated to give EQ 5 to 6) will be made to industry for the 1989/90 Queensland Lychee Season.
