ISHS Acta Horticulturae 268: IV International Symposium on CO2 in Protected Cultivation

SIMULATION OF CO2 CONSUMPTION, HEAT DEMAND AND CROP PRODUCTION OF GREENHOUSE TOMATO AT DIFFERENT CO2 STRATEGIES

Author:   G. Houter
Abstract:
To determine the feasibility of CO2 supply equipments in greenhouse cultures, a simulation program has been developed that calculates the hourly CO2 and heat demand and daily crop production on the basis of hourly data of outside climate.

For a greenhouse tomato crop the simulation results of CO2 concentration, photosynthesis, CO2 losses by ventilation, total CO2 expenditure and CO2 production from combustion on a sunny and a cloudy day in spring are discussed. Further the CO2 production, total CO2 expenditure and crop production for a one-year period are presented. These daily and yearly simulations are done with different CO2 strategies and with different CO2 and heating installations.
