Abstract:
Mathematical models of a lettuce crop and of CO2 loss from a greenhouse have been developed into a form suitable for maximizing grower income by optimizing CO2 concentration.
Analytical relationships for the optimal CO2 concentration were set up as a function of incident radiation, ventilation rate and the ratio of lettuce price to CO2 cost.
The effect of various real time sampling and filtering strategies on the daily dynamic optimal CO2 concentrations are assessed.
Backward moving averages of time windows of up to 30 min are compared.
Correlation between the patterns of incident radiation and those of optimal CO2 concentration are investigated by phase unwrapping and spectral methods.
Sensitivity analysis of optimal CO2 concentrations to perturbations in ventilation rate are discussed.
