SUITABILITY OF NONWOVEN POLYPROPYLENE FOR A FLAT COVERING IN SWEET PEPPER CULTIVATION

Authors:   J. Rumpel, K. Grudzien
Abstract:
This paper describes results of experiments on the effect of different coverings / 1. uncovered check, 2. flat covering with nonwoven polypropylene, 3. flat covering with perforated polyethylene film and 4. ventilated, low plastic tunnel/ on the growth and yield of sweet pepper 'Bell Boy' F1, grown outdoors in years 1987–1989. The nonwoven polypropylene cover and low plastic tunnel secured satisfactory yield whereas the perforated polyethylene cover caused unwanted multilateral growth, delayed fruit setting and caused a decrease in the weight of fruits.
