ISHS Acta Horticulturae 267: VI Symposium on the Timing of Field Production of Vegetables

CONCEPT AND DEVELOPMENT OF A DYNAMIC SIMULATION MODEL FOR ONION GROWTH

Author:   C.L.M. de Visser
Abstract:
In 1987, research was started to design and develop a dynamic simulation model for an onion crop grown from seed, which can function within certain boundaries. A simple and universal crop growth simulator (SUCROS87) is used as a basis for the model, which devides onion growth and development into three periods: emergence, initial exponential growth and the period from end of exponential growth to ripeness. The latter is presented in a relational diagram, pointing out parameters that need to be established. The onion specific parameters were determined from field trial results in 1987 and 1988 and from data in literature.
