RESEARCH AIMED AT A RELIABLE FIELD EMERGENCE OF CARROTS |

| Abstract:
The object of the research was to minimize the differences in the levels of emergence under extremely different weather conditions. The results indicate a large influence of the depth of soil tillage, the planter press wheels, sowing depth and interactions between these factors. The differences in levels of emergence are minimal with undeep soil tillage (5 cm), pressing the soil along side the seed row and sowing at a depth of 1 cm. However, undeep soil tillage is not possible with respect to the quality of the carrots. For seeds, preliminary observations indicate that differences in vigour between gradings and quality of seeds results in differences in field emergence. Most of the differences are differences in levels and not in slopes which seem te be related to the germination % at 7 days count. Priming of the seeds results in earlier emergence and higher yields in the early harvest. Later on there were no differences in yields and grading ratio. | |
