ISHS Acta Horticulturae 267: VI Symposium on the Timing of Field Production of Vegetables

THE EFFECT OF MINERAL NUTRITION ON THE YIELD AND QUALITY OF CAULIFLOWER

Authors:   V. Markovic, M. Djurovka
Abstract:
A three-year investigation (1986–1988) was conducted at the experimental field of The Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops of The Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, in order to assess the effect of varying doses of nitrogen (0 to 200 kg/ha) combined with constant P2O5 and K2O doses of 100 kg/ha each, on the yield and quality of two cauliflower varieties: Snowball and Imperial. The following quality parametres were studied: dry matter, vitamin C, nitrate (NO3) and nitrite (NO2) content.

The yield of cauliflower increased as the nitrogen doses were raised from 0 to 200 kg/ha. The increasing nitrogen doses did not cause significant changes in the contents of dry matter, vitamin C, nitrate (NO3) and nitrite (NO2). The studied quality parametres varied more from one test year to another than from one variant of nitrogen fertilization to another.
