CONSERVATION TILLAGE/PLANTING SYSTEMS FOR SWEET CORN (ZEA MAYS VAR. SACCHARATA)

Abstract:
Experimental results and subsequent grower field evaluations have shown that conservation tillage/planting systems, such as no-till and strip-till, are viable options for growing processing sweet corn compared to conventional tillage/planting systems. The most important factors limiting the successful use of conservation tillage/planting systems for sweet corn production are soil conditions at planting, and seed placement. When seed is properly placed in the soil, uniformity of emergence, plant stand, and yield of conservation and conventional tillage/planting systems are generally equal.
