CONTROL OF SCLEROTIUM ROLFSII ON BULBOUS IRIS AND LILIES WITH IN-FURROW FUNGICIDE APPLICATIONS

Abstract:
Fungicides were applied at planting on field-grown 'Ideal' iris and 'Enchantment' lilies to control Sclerotium rolfsii After 9 months, 2% of the untreated iris and 98–100% of iris treated with benodanil at 1.6–13.1 gm ai, flutolanil at 3.3 and 13.1 gm ai, quintozene at 14.7 gm ai and Nor-Am SN 596 at 3.3 and 6.5 gm ai/m of row were healthy. All fungicides significantly increased bulb yields, but SN 596 was least effective and reduced the number and height of flowers. On lilies, benodanil at 0.06–0.45 gm ai, flutolanil, myclobutanil and diniconazole each at 0.11 gm ai, quintozene at 2.7–10.8 gm ai, quintozene + benomyl at 0.68+0.23 gm ai, flutolanil + Nor-Am SN 596 at 0.11+0.007 gm ai and Nor-Am FBC 39865 at 0.003 gm ai/m of row significantly increased the number of healthy plants and flowers compared to the nontreated checks. Myclobutanil and diniconazole were less effective in providing season-long (17-wk) disease control; diniconazole reduced plant height. All fungicides increased bulb yields, but myclobutanil was least effective.
