RESISTANCE OF BOTRYTIS ELLIPTICA TO FUNGICIDES

Authors:   Q. Migheli, C. Aloi, M.L. Gullino
Abstract:
Recently, severe outbreaks of Botrytis blight on Lilium in Italy were caused by isolates of Botrytis elliptica double resistant to benzimidazoles and dicarboximides. All the isolates double resistant to benzimidazoles and dicarboximides (RBD) and resistant to benzimidazoles (RB) were sensitive to diethofencarb. The fungicides cyproconazole, fenpropimorph, flusilazole and prochloraz showed a very good activity in vitro, by inhibiting both colony formation and mycelial growth of B.elliptica.

Chlorothalonil and dichlofluanid controlled more effectively colony formation than mycelial growth. Complete control of B.elliptica blight on Lilium, artificially inoculated with a mixture of sensitive and RBD strains, was performed under greenhouse conditions, on potted plants, with foliar sprays by the mixture carbendazim+diethofencarb. The fungicides cyproconazole, fenpropimorph and chlorothalonil effectively reduced disease severity, whereas unsatisfactory control, in the presence of severe attacks, was shown by benzimidazoles and dicarboximides.
