THE INHIBITORY ACTION IN VITRO OF DIETHOFENCARB AGAINST PATHOGENIC FUNGI FROM BULBOUS AND TUBEROUS PLANTS

Authors:   P. Vink, A.Th.J. Koster
Abstract:
Various fungi from bulbous and tuberous plants were investigated on media containing the fungicide, diethofencarb. The fungi were resistant to benzimidazoles or not. The benzimidazole-resistant isolates of Botrytis cinerea and B. tulipae showed a negatively correlated cross-resistance (NCCR) to diethofencarb. Also benzimidazole-resistant isolates of B. elliptica appeared to be very sensitive to this fungicide. The toxic effect of diethofencarb on fungi was also prominent in experiments with tulips that had been infected with benzimidazole-resistant B. cinerea. In an experiment to assess the growth of dicarboximide-resistant and -sensitive isolates of B. cinerea we did not find NCCR between dicarboximide (vinchlozolin) and diethofencarb. Isolates of Fusarium oxysporum and Penicillium spp. appeared to be insensitive to diethofencarb, even if the isolates were resistant to benzimidazoles.
