Abstract:
With the purpose of obtaining Lilium selections suitable for Italian conditions, 76 varieties, most of them belonging to the "Asiatic Hybrids" division, were tested by means of a "diallelic (partial and incomplete)" crossing design.
The following characters were observed:
- - number of flowering plants after one year of cultivation
- - days required to flower (from bulbs)
- - number of flowers per stem
- - plants size
Of the 410 combinations of crosses carried out, only 69 families with a suitable size were considered.
The 36 parents of these progenies appear interesting not only for their fertility but also for the large variability shown in the studied characters.
