ISHS Acta Horticulturae 266: V International Symposium on Flower Buds

MODE OF ACTION OF METAL SALTS AND SUCROSE EXTENDING THE VASE LIFE OF CUT GLADIOLI

Author:   T.P. Murali
Abstract:
Combination of sucrose and metal salts increased the vase life of cut gladioli by 19 to 76%. The time during which the positive water balance was maintained within the cut flower was extended as a result of which there was a significant increase in membrane permeability indicated by measuring either ion leakage or malondialdehyde was found to be delayed or reduced by use of metal salts and sucrose In addition the treatment with metal salts and sucrose was found to reduce ethylene evolution by cut gladioli.
