STRATEGIES FOR THE SAFE CONTROL OF FRUIT ROTS WITH VINCLOZOLIN

Authors:   D. Mappes, F. Löcher
Abstract:
  1. Dicarboximides give excellent control of B. cinerea, the most important cause of fruit rot in strawberries. There are, however, problems due to their narrow spectrum of activity and the danger that resistant fungal strains may develop if they are sprayed too often.
  2. Dicarboximides are therefore applied with other fungicides.
  3. The mixture vinclozolin + TMTD is very effective against B. cinerea and other pathogens. It remains effective for long time and gives satisfactory control in the presence of dicarboximide-resistant B. cinerea strains.
  4. The mixture vinclozolin + TMTD proved better than mixed spray schedules with vinclozolin and dichlofluanid or tolylfluanid in controlling fruit rots. It was also superior to the mixture vinclozolin + dichlofluanid.
  5. On account of the good results obtained, ready-made products containing vinclozolin and TMTD have been made and are either registered or registration is pending in a number of countries (e.g. Ronilan-T-Combi with 16,7 % vinclozolin + 53,3 % TMTD, Silbos T with 10 % vinclozolin + 64 % TMTD).
