ISHS Acta Horticulturae 265: International Strawberry Symposium

EFFECT OF LIGHT INTENSITY, TEMPERATURE AND CO2 CONCENTRATION ON PHOTOSYNTHESIS AND GROWTH OF STRAWBERRY PLANTLET CULTIVATED IN VITRO

Author:   Y. Oda
Abstract:
The purpose of this experiment was to elucidate the optimum environmental conditions necessary to promote growth of strawberry plantlets in cultural vessels (in vitro). It was found that the photosynthesis of plantlets in vessels was best at the lower ranges of light intensities. Optimum temperature was 25°C; lower levels of CO2 concentration promoted photosynthesis and growth, while higher levels of CO2 inhibited them at levels of light intensity of 1,000 to 4,000 lux. In high concentrations of CO2 (1,500 ppm), photosynthesis was enhanced at light intensities above 5,000 lux, and slight enhancement of growth was observed also at the same light conditions.
