ETHYLENE EVOLUTION IN STRAWBERRY (FRAGARIA X ANANASSA DUCH) DURING FRUIT DEVELOPMENT

Author:   Fouad M. Basiouny
Abstract:
Exogenous application of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC), indoleacetic acid (IAA), and aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) to 'Earliglow' strawberry at preclimacteric and climacteric stages was associated with different levels of autonomous ethylene evolution. At both stages of fruit development, ACC induced the highest ethylene level, while AVG inhibited the biosynthesis of ethylene. The high levels of ethylene evoluted at pre- and climacteric, and other fruit quality parameters, suggested that strawberry is a climacteric rather than an absolute non-climacteric fruit.
