Abstract:
Regeneration of plants was attempted on five commercial strawberry cultivars ('Brighton', 'Douglas', 'Fern', 'Honeoye' and 'Parker'). The initial tissues used were unpollinated ovaries, petals and stamen filaments.
All the tested cultivars were able to regenerate from ovaries in the presence of cytokinins (BAP 2.2 – 22 μM) and auxins (NAA 2.7 – 10.8 μM or 2,4-D 0.9 – 2.3 μM). Regeneration from petals was obtained only on cvs. 'Brighton' and 'Fern'. Stamen filaments did not regenerate.
Regenerated shoots were easily multiplied and rooted giving plantlets that will be observed in field trials.
