LYSIMETRIC MEASUREMENTS OF WATER CONSUMED BY DAY-NEUTRAL STRAWBERRY CV. FERN.

Authors:   Pisa P. Rossi, N. Gaspari, P. Rosati
Abstract:
The trial was performed in 1987 to determine the water withdrawn by the day-neutral strawberry cv. Fern. Three compensation lysimeters were used. The compared treatments were two depths of irrigation scheduled on class A evaporation rate, and subirrigation by water table at 80cm. Weekly measurements of soil moisture profiles indicated the greatest difference in July, following the LAI. Maximum water withdrawn was between 30 and 40cm all along the season. Daily evapotranspiration was the highest (3.6mm/d) in the most oirrigated lysimeter and the lowest in subirrigated one. The seasonal water consumption did not show appreciable differences between drip irrigated treatments, whilst the subirrigated strawberry consumed half of the amount. Yield increased with effective evapotranspiration.
