THE EFFECT OF TWO IRRIGATION VOLUMES ON PERFORMANCE OF DAY-NEUTRAL STRAWBERRY. |

| Abstract:
Data on irrigation depth for day-neutral strawberries are absent in Italy. The trial was performed in Cesena (Po Valley) during 1986–1987. Three cultivars and eight selections were planted on plastic mulched silty-clay soil comparing two depths of irrigation. A rainfed plot as control was also present. Irrigation was scheduled twice a week on a class A pan evaporation rate with restitution of two volumes (V and V/2). In 1986 soil moisture was recorded every second week by gravimetric method in both treatments. In all cases, soil moisture was higher as irrigation depth increased. In 1986 25 pickings occurred from August to December, in 1987 35 pickings from the end of April to October. In both years the irrigation depth did not influence the production (total yield and berry size) for all clones; but the V/2 induced a higher yield of commercial fruit and an higher number of branch crowns. Noticeable differences occurred in both years among the clones. | |
