Abstract:
Production of haploids of commercial strawberry cultivars was attempted using androgenesis and intergeneric crossing followed by embryo rescue and culture.
Factors influencing callus production and plantlet regeneration from anthers were investigated and large numbers of plants were produced.
None of these were haploid.
Hybridisation between commercial strawberry cultivars (2n = 56) and Potentilla fruticosa (2n = 14), followed by embryo rescue 21–28 days later and embryo culture, gave 17 plant lines from 12 fruits.
Hybrids and haploids appear to have been produced.
