GENOTYPE-ENVIRONMENT RELATION AFFECTING THE RIPENING TIME IN STRAWBERRY |

| Abstract:
The days and the heat required for blooming and ripening by 30 strawberry clones differing in their ripening season from January 1st, were recorded for two years: 1984 and 1985 in open air in Cesena (Po Valley, Italy). In 1985, the effect of a small size tunnel cover with perforated polythene film was also studied. The heat was calculated as the sum of the average day temperatures (maximum + minimum/2) considering the days over 4°C and over 6°C. The higher level better explained the different earliness between the two years. The 1985 season was early, mainly as effect of warmer temperature in the early spring. The plastic cover reduced the blooming-ripening interval. It is evident that it would be possible to obtain earlier or later ripening plant material if the best values for early or late blooming could be recombined with the shorter or longer blooming-ripening interval. | |
