ISHS Acta Horticulturae 263: International Symposium on Simple Ventilation and Heating Methods for Greenhouses in Mild Winter Climates

GREENHOUSE CONSTRUCTION IN FUNCTION OF BETTER CLIMATE CONTROL

Author:   C. Zabeltitz
Abstract:
Regarding greenhouse constructions for mild climates one has to distinguish
  • Greenhouses for Mediterranean climates
  • Greenhouses for tropical desert conditions
  • Greenhouses for humid tropical climates

Plastic-film greenhouses are prevailing in most of the mild climate regions

In addition to the general demands on plastic-film greenhouses, influences on the greenhouse contruction are existing, which are dependant on the climate conditions in the different climate regions.

Ventilation, humidity control, light transmissivity, heating, cooling aud the collection of rain water for irrigation are functions of climatization, which are dependant on the greenhouse construction. The plastic-film greenhouses have developed themselves in many countries according to the national traditions. One often finds very different constructions in climatically comparable regions. One should design the plastic-film greenhouses more according to the climatic circumstances and the general demands in future.
