ISHS Acta Horticulturae 263: International Symposium on Simple Ventilation and Heating Methods for Greenhouses in Mild Winter Climates

EFFET DE DIFFERENTS TYPES DE COUVERTURES ET D'ECRANS THERMIQUE SUR LE BILAN RADIATIF ET LA PRODUCTION PRECOCE D'UNE CULTURE DE TOMATE

Authors:   R. Mougou, N. Ben Mechlia
Abstract:
This word deals with the effect of different plastic greenhouses, either having or not having therminal screens, on the bioclimate and tomatoes production.

The study was carried out on seven greenhouse types, covered by different plastic materials: Polyethylene (PE), Ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA) and worven Ethyl vinyl acetate (PLS). Three materials were used as thermal screens: the LS 10 (transparent), the LS 15 (50% aluminised) and the LS 11 (100% aluminised).

The greenhouse types resulting from some chosen combinations were: (PLS), (PLS+LS 15), (PLS+LS 10P), PE, (EVA+LS1 1HV), (EVA+LS10) and PLS+LS11).

Hourly recording of night temperature and net radiation, in addition to measurements of early and exportable productions were performed during the experiment.

Concerning the mean night temperatures, the "Cover" effect was much more significant than the screen effect. Indeed, the best temperature improvements were obtained under EVA greenhouses.

The high radiant energy losses were observed under PE greenhouses. Relatively less losses were recorded under the PLS ones. In the other cases the screen effect was highly significant. Early and exportable productions were higher in EVA greenhouses.

A better fruit quality was however associated with the use of thermal screens.
