| Abstract:
Three vegetable species, namely tomato, melon and cucumber were planted at different dates under heated plastic greenhouses. For each case, the number of days and the total amount of global radiation were determined over the periods from planting to the first harvest. It turned out that the length in days, for a given species, may show important variations, depending on the growing period, whereas the amount of total global radiation remains constant. Apparently, a minimum input of solar energy is required by each cultivar in order to produce 28.5 kcal/cm2 for tomatoes, 26.5 kcal/cm2 for melon and 25.5 kcal/cm2 for cucumber. | |
