EFFECTS OF ROW COVER ON VEGETATIVE AND REPRODUCTIVE GROWTH OF 'HERITAGE' RED RASPBERRY

Authors:   Gail R. Nonnecke, Henry G. Taber
Abstract:
Clear slitted and perforated polyethylene row covers were placed over primocane-fruiting 'Heritage' red raspberry on 15 April and removed on 15 May 1988. Accumulative heat units of soil (measured at a 5-cm depth) and air (measured at an 18-cm height) were significantly higher for treatments with row covers compared with no row cover. Clear slitted and perforated polyethylene row covers produced similar air and soil heat units. Row-cover treatments had no affect on primocane height or node number data obtained during the growing season. Also, early yield (24 August through 1 September) and total yield (24 August through 3 October) did not differ among row cover treatments.
