THE B.C. RASPBERRY CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Authors:   Andrea J. Buonassisi, Hugh A. Daubeny, B. Peters
Abstract:
Since 1985 British Columbia's Raspberry Certification Program (B.C.R.C.P.) has provided healthy, high quality red raspberry planting stock to commercial growers. Approximately 12 hectares of certified Willamette, Skeena, Meeker, Chilcotin, Chilliwack and Comox planting stock are annually produced in British Columbia's Fraser Valley. Raspberry growers registered in the program follow strict guidelines for the production of certified planting stock. Certification of raspberry planting stock is based on annual field inspections, intensive plant and soil sampling and laboratory testing. The certification program has a zero tolerance for cultivar mixing, viruses, crown gall, root rots and nematodes. Stock is graded to ensure that only the highest quality plants are sold. Agriculture Canada, the British Columbia Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (B.C.M.A.F.) and the University of British Columbia (U.B.C.) jointly administer the program.
