ISHS Acta Horticulturae 261: IV International Symposium on Postharvest Physiology of Ornamental Plants

OBJECTIVE AND SUBJECTIVE PARAMETERS OF QUALITY EVALUATION OF CUT FLOWERS

Author:   A. H. Halevy
Abstract:
Quality evaluation of cut flowers is partially subjective and varies in different markets and societies. Included among the parameters of quality are the form, colour, shape and fragrance of the flower and of the stem and foliage. Some quality parameters can be observed at harvest, while others - such as opening and longevity - can be evaluated according to their performance only by the final consumer.

Each of the quality parameters is determined by specific pre-and post-harvest conditions which may vary for different flowers. In recent years specific treatments have been developed which greatly improve the quality of many cut flowers.
