ISHS Acta Horticulturae 261: IV International Symposium on Postharvest Physiology of Ornamental Plants

THE ROLE OF ETHYLENE IN PETAL SENESCENCE OF TRITELEIA LAXA ‘QUEEN FABIOLA’

Authors:   S. HAN, A. H. HALEVY, M. S. REID
Abstract:
Unpollinated brodiaea (Triteleia laxa) flowers produced no measurable ethylene during their entire life. Treatment with ethylene (0.03 ppm) induced senescence of open flowers, and completely inhibited opening of buds and petal growth. STS had no effect on flowers kept in air but counteracted the effects of applied ethylene. STS pre-treatment is recommended in commercial handling of Brodiaea.
