ISHS Acta Horticulturae 260: International Symposium on Growth and Yield Control in Vegetable Production

DIFFERENT WAYS OF OBTAINING TECHNOLOGICAL PARAMETERS FOR COMPUTERASSISTED SOIL AND CROP MANAGEMENT IN THE PRODUCTION OF FIELD VEGETABLES IN THE GDR

Authors:   H. Fröhlich, P. Kläring
Abstract:
The software for computer-assisted soil and crop management in field vegetables currently being developed in the GDR is based on farming parameters and relationships obtained from four different sources:
  • accurate, multi-factor plot and field experiments carried out over several years;
  • practical tests in selected agricultural enterprises;
  • secondary processing of data obtained over several years of agricultural production;
  • nation-wide statistical yield output surveys on all individual sites carried out over several years.

The level of the production targets as basic values for crop management, which has so far been fixed for 25 varieties of field vegetables and their maturity groups, is determined by the combination of yield outputs obtained on a considerable number of test fields under nearly optimal conditions and the results obtained in the variety control stations; site-specific relationships between yields on more than 25 defined natural sites are based on the yield statistics of the GDR. Technologically related restrictions having been deducted, the sitespecific, technologically effective yield potential is thus determined.
