| Abstract:
The "Harrow Fertigation Manager®" enables the grower to meet the diverse and changing nutrient requirements of a number of crops from one standardized set of concentrated fertilizer (stock) solutions. The system utilizes an IBM compatible computer to activate a series of dosimetric pumps at varying frequencies for the preprogrammed application of desired concentrations of all essential nutrients. In addition, the "Harrow FM®" adjusts automatically the supply of water and individual nutrients to the crops according to information stored in the memory of the computer and according to the inputs of external sensors. The system can operate on either automatic (factory preset or grower programmable), or manual mode. It is equipped with system-self-checking software and alarms, and its software allows the use of a great variety of electrical, water, or air-driven pumps. The Harrow FM® can be used as a new stand-alone system or for the automation of existing multi-head fertilizer injectors in commercial greenhouses. Besides its practical application in the commercial production of crops the, Harrow FM® will be a powerful tool in plant nutrition research. | |
