ISHS Acta Horticulturae 26: III Symposium on Peat in Horticulture

THE EFFECT OF NITROGEN ON CONTAINER GROWN SHRUBS IN PEAT BASED SUBSTRATES

Author:   A.R. Carter
Abstract:
The importance of container grown nursery stock is increasing annually and growers frequently ask for advice on nutrient levels. Trials have been carried out at three Experimental Horticulture Stations, Efford, Luddington and Rosewarne. A. D. A. S. Soil Science Departments have been involved in the design of the experiments and in the analyses of feeds substrates and plant tissue.

Initially, N concentrations of 100, 200 and 400 ppm were applied at weekly intervals but there was evidence that higher nutrient levels should be tried.

This brief paper concentrates on some of the more important results of the 1969 and 1970 seasons.
