THE GROWTH OF CYCLAMEN PERSICUM IN PEAT AND PEAT MODIFIED MEDIA WITH SEVERAL FERTILIZER REGIMES |

| Abstract:
The popularity of cyclamen Cyclamen persicum pot plants in the U. S. A. has been decreasing in recent years. A significant factor in the decline has been the cost of production, as determined by a 15 month production period (1, 4). European research workers (2, 3, 8), with different environmental conditions and cultural methods, have produced mature plants in 6–8 months. Research studies (5, 6, 9) have shown that peat is a suitable growth medium for plants. Sphagnum moss peat has been recommended for cyclamen production (6, 7, 8). As part of an attempt to determine whether American growers could produce mature cyclamen in 6–8 months, this study was designed to evaluate the growth of potted cyclamen in peat and peat modified media fertilized with a standardized nutrient solution, and to evaluate the effect of varied fertilizer regimes on growth in each of the media. | |
