| Abstract:
In many countries an increased number of research people are enjoyed with postharvest problems of fruits and vegetables. Over 220 scientists from 37 different countries attended the I.S.H.S. International Symposium Postharvest 88 at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium in 1988. The scientific programme included the presentation of 70 oral papers and 30 posters. The scientific programme, arranged by Ir. M. Herregods, convenor, Prof. J. Apeland, Prof. M. De Proft, Ir. G. Goffings, Prof. P. Tobback and last but not least Dr. R.O. Sharples, exhibited or very successful running. Professional visits to sophisticated Belgium storage facilities : U.L.O. -storage, precooling systems, experimental orchards, cooperatives with tele-simultaneous sales systems (distant selling) are very impressive, also the social activities with touristic visits and tasting Belgium beers and cheese are enjoyed. The wish that the I.S.H.S. Conference Postharvest 88 in Leuven will promote new exchange of ideas and more international collaboration about storage and handling of fruits and vegetables is surely obtained. |
