ISHS Acta Horticulturae 256: V International Symposium on Pear Growing

ENHANCED RESISTANCE TO POSTHARVEST DECAY IN BOSC PEARS TREATED WITH CALCIUM CHLORIDE

Author:   D. Sugar
Abstract:
Summer applications of calcium chloride at 1.2, 3.6, and 6.0 g actual calcium per liter of water resulted in reduced lesion areas in wounded Bosc pears inoculated postharvest with Phialophora malorum, as compared to untreated inoculated fruit. There was a significant interaction between rate of calcium applied and the concentration of spores with which wounds were challenged.
