Abstract:
Pear tree orchards located in Girona and Lleida were surveyed for the presence of pathogenic bacteria in relation to the observation of symptoms of blighting and blasting of floral structures, specially during autumn and spring.
The consistent presence of Pseudomonas syringae phytopathogenic to pear trees and with ice nucleation activity, and the assessment of population levels larger than 104 CFU/g f.w. in most of the affected orchards, specially during spring indicated an important role of this pathogen in frost susceptibility and in development of blast of pear trees in Catalunya.
