EVOLUTION OF PEAR GROWING IN THE LOIRE VALLEY (FRANCE)

Author:   Y. Guiheneuf
Abstract:
The Loire Valley, situated in the Center-West of France, produces - 15 % of the national pear crop.

The total acreage of pear trees and the number of cultivars are decreasing, but the relative importance of 3 cultivars: 'Williams', 'Conference' and 'Doyenné du Comice', is increasing.

The cultivar 'Passe-crassane', very susceptible to fire-blight, is decreasing rapidly.
