Abstract:
Twelve isozyme loci are described for cultivated populations of peach, almond, plum and apricot.
Plum had the highest mean number of alleles per loci and peach had the lowest.
The polymorphism observed has been frequently used for cultivar identification and inter and intra-specific hybrid verification, but has the potential to be utilized in the construction of linkage maps, and in a range of studies concerning breeding strategies, the effects of domestication on genetic diversity, germplasm variability analysis, evolution of the genus and systematics.
