ISHS Acta Horticulturae 253: IV International Symposium on Seed Research in Horticulture

USEFULNESS OF MINERAL ADJUNCTION FOR THE GERMINATION OF CERTAIN SEED SPECIES IN THE LABORATORY

Authors:   H.A. RENARD, J. LECHAPPE
Abstract:
The International Rules prescribe to carry out germination tests in inert media moistened with pure water or a KNO3 (2 p. 1000) solution when dormancy is suspected. However, mineral ions may allow the seeds to better realize their potentialities and to improve the conditions of seeds evaluation. Germination of seeds of three species (Vicia faba, Phaseolus vulgaris, Brassica sp.) in artificial substrat moistened with mineral solutions is discussed.
