| Abstract:
In field experiments from 1985 to 1987, the influence of plant architecture on seed quality is studied in Cichorium endivia cv Frisée de Meaux. Simplify plant architecture was obtained by increasing plant density (3, 10, 35 pl/m2). Field harvests showed that the highest population gave the highest yield and the best germination rate although the seed weight was decreased. Individual plant harvest showed that the increase in germination came through more uniformity in the classes of capitulums producing yield (respectively 1 to 8, 1 to 6, 1 to 3) meaning earlier and easier-to-choose harvest date. On the highest plant density, lodging appeared to be a problem on stormy summer. | |
